WALTERBORO – Ms. Mattie Stanley Hickman, 73, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at her residence. Born April 21, 1951, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Manley Jim Stanley and the late Mattie Idell Sheppard Stanley. Mattie was a loom operator a J. P. Stevens in Walterboro for many years, and following that, she began to work as a small engine mechanic at Glen’s Small Engine and Walterboro Rental. She was a member of Hendersonville Baptist Church. She will always be remembered for her love of fishing and working in her garden. Surviving are: her son, David Wayne Smith and his wife Melanie of Walterboro; nine grandchildren, Danielle Jacob (Andrew), Gabrielle Smith, Savannah Jones, Sierrah Smith, Matthew Smith, Allason Pantano (Jon), Kelcey Cummings (Josh) Seth Sturtevant, and Cody Rose; eleven great grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances Pendarvis, Altha Lake, and Jeanette Stanley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Coplen; four brothers, Homer, Milton, Ralph, and Carl Stanley; and a sister, Marjorie Drops. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o’clock Friday morning, July 26, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.
