Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter David Goins on #firefighterfriday. Captain Goins joined Colleton County Fire-Rescue in 2006 and serves as the Captain for Station 19’s Platoon on “A” Shift. Here is more information on Captain Goins:

David enlisted with the Air Force after graduating high school and was trained as an Air Force firefighter. He did not know much about the fire service prior to enlisting, but he enjoyed the excitement of the job.

After completing his four year tour, he obtained his National Registry EMT and moved to South Carolina to work for Mount Pleasant Fire Department. He spent two years honing his civilian skills before taking a contract firefighter position that would land him in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Once his contract ended, he returned to South Carolina and applied to Colleton County Fire-Rescue; he says he has “never looked back.” Enjoying the “all hazards” capabilities that Colleton County Fire-Rescue offers, David decided to further his medical training and enrolled in paramedic school; he obtained his National Registry Paramedic in 2008. In 2010, he was promoted to Captain.

When Captain Goins finds some free time, he enjoys traveling, kayaking, hiking, and anything that involves making memories with his son!
