After graduating high school, Paul was unsure of his next move; he didn’t know if he would continue with school or enter the workforce. During a conversation with some of his friends, they said to give the fire department a try. Paul, loving a good challenge, decided he would do just that. He walked into his local fire station, Ashley River Fire Department, and filled out a volunteer application. Paul was told to give it a year and if he didn’t like it to move on to something else. Fortunately, the fire service was a great fit for him. This simple suggestion, and a one year commitment paved the way for him to attend fire school, and after graduation, he was hired at Old Fort Fire Department. He was also able to transition into a part time position at Ashley River Fire Department. Looking for a change, he decided to apply for a “D” shift position at Colleton County Fire-Rescue. On November 5, 2012, he officially walked into Colleton County Fire-Rescue, thinking it was just a job, but he quickly learned it was way more than that, he had found a home! His first assignment was at Station 8 serving the Hendersonville community, and he was later moved to Rescue 1 while he was in EMT school. After completing the EMT program and securing his certification, he was moved to a 24/48 shift.
When Paul is not on duty, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He is often found standing on a field coaching his children’s teams or standing on the sidelines as their number one fan. Paul also loves training dogs and is a self taught guru! When it is time to unwind, he likes to hunt and fish.
