Update on Shooting Investigations (Burlington Road Case and Ritter Road Case)

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate several shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend between June 1, 2024, and June 2, 2024.

At approximately 11 PM the night of Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting that resulted in an 8-year-old juvenile passenger in a motor vehicle sustaining a life-threatening injury. The juvenile was flown to an area Hospital for treatment and as of today remains in the ICU.

Initial investigation shows the suspect vehicle may have been parked near the Christmas Tree Farm on Burlington Road while waiting on the victim’s car. There is no specific vehicle description available at this time but Detectives located evidence that a vehicle may have been stopped on the grassy shoulder for a period of time. We are asking if you live in the area of Burlington Road and saw any unfamiliar vehicles, or a vehicle parked on the shoulder near Burlington Road and the Christmas Tree Farm during the hours of 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM on June 1, 2024 to please contact the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

In regards to the shooting at the 2800 block of Ritter Road near Hendersonville Hwy where Detectives recovered over 100 spent casings, as of today, there are no reported victims of that shooting. Video footage from a nearby residence was reviewed and showed 4 individuals exiting an unknown vehicle and firing several weapons at a residence. Due to the video’s low quality, the suspects and the vehicle are not identifiable.

If you live in the area of Ritter Road, we ask you to review your home surveillance cameras continuously for suspicious activities and call the Sheriff’s Office to make a report. This can be done over the phone or anonymously through our portal.

Our investigation has determined these are not random acts of violence but are targeted attacks on specific vehicles or residences. All incidents are actively being investigated by the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office-Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office immediately.

Violence will not be tolerated in Colleton County. We as a community can combat the violence together by remaining attentive and if you see something, say something.
