Crash Kills One on I-95

South Bound I-95 was closed on Wednesday Morning May 22 as crews cleared the wreckage of an early morning accident that claimed one life.

TFC. Nick T. Pye said, the driver of a 2024 Mack truck left the highway at the 62-mile marker southbound just past Mcleod Road exit around 5:30 am.

The truck swerved, left the interstate, drove down an embankment, struck several trees in the median and flipped several times.

The driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the crushed cab. Colleton County Fire-Rescue extricated the victim, He did not survive the crash. His identity has not been released.

Traffic was backed up for around 3 miles and detoured at exit 62 as crews worked the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says this incident remains under investigation.
