Wayne Craig Register

Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home

Wayne Craig Register was born September 20, 1940 in Hendersonville, SC, the last child of Hallie Virginia Capers Register and Eual Earl Register.  He owned and operated a successful timber business, Ozbolt and Register, Inc., with his friend and partner Fred McMillan for many years.  A natural athlete, Wayne excelled on the baseball diamond for Hendersoville High School, playing with grace and agility.  He was also a great running back for the Walterboro Wildcats, a skilled tennis player and an avid runner.  He and Cecile were enthusiastic supporters of The Citadel Baseball and Football teams.  He served his country at home and abroad.

Wayne’s true gift was music.  His beautiful tenor voice graced his beloved Salem United Methodist Church since his childhood, and he memorably sang “Rise Up Shepherd and Follow” at Christmas services past.  Perhaps his most marked characteristic, apart from his faith and generosity to others, was his sense of humor.  No one loved to laugh more than Wayne, a trait his family and friends cherished dearly throughout his life.  His ability to laugh saw him through the bad times, including the loss of his beloved wife Cecile “Cilly” Register in 2011.  Wayne and Cecile enjoyed many happy decades of a loving marriage full of adventure and travel.

Family was of paramount importance to Wayne and he leaves behind his dear step-children Marina Scott of Summerville, and Jeff Scott of Walterboro, in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom adored their “Uncle Wayne” and will treasure his memory.  Wayne was predeceased by his parents, his wife Cecile Wingens Register of Germany and Walterboro, and by his five brothers and two sisters:  Kenneth E. Register Sr., Verna R. Hamlin, Warren Register, Alice R. Zygadlo, Lee Capers Register, Billy Lee Register, and Euel Earl Register Jr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, December 30, 2021 at 11:00 at Salem United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Stokes Cemetery.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Wednesday evening, December 29, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
