Mother Rosella Stokes was born on Friday “the 4th month the 11th day” (as she would say) in 1941 in Smoaks, SC “across the branch” to the late Rebecca “Doll” Stokes and the late Wilson Jenkins Sr. She departed this earthly life early Sunday morning on February 25, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center after battling an illness. She was the best daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend that you would ever meet. Mother Stokes was educated in Colleton County public schools. She also helped her mother raise her younger siblings. She was always willing to help when she could Mother Rosella Stokes was a life-long member of Beulah Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and loved attending church services at Beulah as well as other churches. She was a Christian and baptized in Jesus name for the remission of her sins at The Emmanuel Church of Our LORD JESUS CHRIST in Swansea, SC. Mother Rosella Stokes was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Lottie Stokes; oldest brother, Benjamin “Tunda” Stokes Sr; oldest sister, Lottie Mae Cobb; and three younger sisters: Hattie Stokes, Mazell Lawton, and Barbara Mosley. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Prince Timothy Black and James Tre’Vaughn Black, along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mother Rosella Stokes leaves to cherish very fond memories with oldest daughter, Debra(Davy) Williams of Walterboro, SC; her second oldest daughter Ella”Sista” (James) Black of Columbia, SC; her 3rd Baby Rosa(DaVid) Moore of Hopkins, SC; and her baby, Ronetta(Deamon) Jones of Chapin, SC; eight grandsons: Renarldo, Denzel, Gerard, DaVahn(Misha), William, DeVahndre’, Deamon Jr, and Deion; six granddaughters: DeVendra, De’ja, Aleah, Rosella Rebecca, Rosalita, and Dana; five great grandsons and six great granddaughters; two brothers: Charlie(Dorothy)Stokes of Smoaks, SC and Minister Charles “Man” (Tanya) Stokes of Enterprise, Alabama; four sisters: Bessie Jenkins of Summerville, SC; Janet Stokes of Hampton, SC; Mazie Stokes and Ruthann Linder of Smoaks, SC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Those who knew her knew her well. No one was a stranger to her. She would talk to any and everybody because she loved to talk, and she loved people. We all know that we will miss her dearly, but the life she lived will live on in her four fabulous, devoted daughters, whom she loved and adored. As well as with her beautiful grandbabies and great grandbabies.
