Thelma Justine Ackerman Snelgrove, age 98, formerly of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in her daughter’s home in Maryville, Tennessee. She was born June 30, 1925, in Cottageville, South Carolina, and was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church of Cottageville. Thelma graduated Cottageville High School and was attending Rice Business School when she was called to work at the Charleston Naval Yard during World War II. She was a devoted wife to Sam Houston Snelgrove for 35 years; loving mother of Teri Elizabeth Snelgrove, and loving grandmother of Sean LeGros Snelgrove. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Alvah Justin and Lisher Jaques Ackerman; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Ackerman, Jean Ackerman Reeves, and Bessie O Ackerman; brothers, Alvah Francis Ackerman, Lawrence Myrtlin Ackerman, and James Allen Ackerman. She is survived by daughter, Teri; grandson, Sean; brother, Leonard Sherrill Ackerman; niece, Allison Reeves (Brian) Parks; nephews, Patrick (Yolanda) Reeves and Alvah Justin Ackerman II, and grandniece, Sasha Reeves Jones. Thelma loved spending time with family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her daughter and grandson whom she loved with all her heart. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Jamie of Blount Memorial Hospice for her compassion and care on Thelma’s journey home. No services to be held.
