Edward Eugene Reed Sr., age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones.

Edward was born on November 4, 1948, in Andrews, South Carolina to David Morton Reed and Elizabeth Lee Newton. He served his country faithfully and retired from the United States Army, 101st Infantry Division-Screaming Eagles.  He completed one tour in Vietnam, was a Purple Heart recipient, and was awarded many medals and badges, including, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Dev 1960, Sharpshooter Badge, and Parachutist Badge.

He married his wife Maritza Elizabeth (Perdomo) De Reed in Honduras, Central America on December 4, 1992. Edward enjoyed partaking in many activities, but one of his all-time favorites was watching the Carolina Gamecocks on the big screen and playing The Legend of Zelda with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for reading and was not afraid of getting out of his comfort zone. When he was able, he enjoyed outdoor activities as well, such as hunting and fishing.

Along with his contagious smile, Edward lived a life of simplicity. God, family and good food were always at the top of his list. Although he was very reserved, he was a man with many layers, and had a library of stories to tell and if you were lucky enough, he would have shared one of them with you.

Edward was one of seven children. He is survived by his wife Maritza Perdomo De Reed; his children, Antonia Susannah L. Reed Pon, Edward Eugene Reed Jr., Elizabeth Lee Rocha, Laura Faye Drawdy, and Frances Elizabeth Wilson; many grandchildren; sister, Susan Martin; and two brothers James Reed and Kenneth Reed.

If you were ever touched by his words of wisdom or his kind heart, we extend an invitation to join us in celebrating the life of our beloved brother in Christ at 10 o’clock, Monday morning, October 2, 2023, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.  Interment followed at 12 noon at Beaufort National Cemetery.
