A Colleton County man has died after being struck by two cars in front of the former Camelot Nightclub on S.C. Highway 61.

Nathaniel Sutter, 41, died from injuries he received during the Jan. 24th Sunday hit-and-run.

According to Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire-Rescue, the victim was walking near his home at about 10 p.m. when he was struck by the first vehicle.

“Family members heard the impact and ran outside to see what happened,” said McRoy.

McRoy said the man was already laying in the road, facedown, when the second vehicle approached.

“According to witnesses, a family member attempted to flag down the second car on the dark stretch of rural highway, but the car also struck the man,” said McRoy. “Both vehicles fled the scene.”

McRoy said the man died from multiple traumatic injuries.

Fire-Rescue arrived about nine minutes after the 911-call was received. The man was found deceased, said McRoy. The area was closed to traffic for about four hours while the S.C. Highway Patrol conducted an investigation, he said.

The incident occurred near the 11500 block of Augusta Highway, also known as S.C. Highway 61.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the S.C. Highway Patrol, this incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the vehicles that fled the scene, please contact the SC Highway Patrol at (803) 896-8144) or the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office (843) 549-2211.

According to McRoy, this is the fourth fatal motor-vehicle-accident to occur in Colleton County during the month of January this year.

In January of 2020, there were two fatal MVA’s, he said.
