Mrs. Mary Reeves Newton, known loving and affectionally by all as “Betty”, age 96, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024, at the Summerville Medical Center. She was twice married, first to the late Mr. James Benjamin Aldret and secondly to the late Mr. John Leonard Newton.
Born August 11, 1927, in Cottageville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Louis McKeiver Reeves and the late Nell Carter Reeves. She worked as a supervisor for a sewing manufacturer in Summerville. She was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro, where she was active in many aspects of her church’s work. She dedicated her life to her family and always centered her life around doing for others. Truly, her life was beautifully lived and will be even more beautifully remembered.
Surviving are: four children, Wilson L. Jones (Minami) of Alaska, James R. Jones (Sandra Lee) of Maryland, Diane Feole of Walterboro, and Pamela M. Cascio (Steve) of Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Faye W. Reeves of Cottageville; twelve grandchildren as well as host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, William Jones, Sr., Wayne Jones, and David Jones; two grandchildren William “Bubba” Jones, Jr. and Mandy Beth Jones; three brothers, Billy Reeves, Marion Reeves, and Buck Reeves; and a sister, Nell Reeves Ford.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, January 27, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Rodney Lyons officiated. Interment followed in Ackerman Cemetery, Round O.
