Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Munn, 92, of Waterbury, CT., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Waterbury Hospital. Mrs. Munn was born on May 6, 1931, in Walterboro, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kate (Turner) Williams. Mary was married to the late Carter Munn of Waterbury, CT. Mary was educated in the Walterboro public school system and graduated High School in Colleton County. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Waterbury, CT. in 1951. When she arrived in Waterbury, she began working at the Naugatuck Footwear Plant in Naugatuck, CT where she worked there over 25 years. Mary then started working at Southbury Training School, where she retired in 1998 after over 20 years of service. She also worked for NOW Senior Program for 7 years after she retired. Patricia Williams Fishburne of Walterboro, SC, Edith Williams of San Francisco, CA; one son Derek Williams of Waterbury, CT; three grandchildren Kelly Truly of Charleston, SC, Joseph C. Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV and (predeceased) Andre Fishburne of Walterboro, SC.; two great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Rita Munn of Waterbury, CT and Kathleen Williams of Valdosta, GA.; and a special godchild Kelley Gregory.
Mary was predeceased by three brothers, Leonard Williams, Bradford Williams, Stadford Williams; and four sisters, Sarah Williams, Annie Laura Gerideau, Jessie Williams, Kathleen Williams; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday December 22, 2023 at Mt. Olive A.M.E Zion Church at 10:30am. Viewing in Church from 10-10:30am. Burial to follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery.
