SURFSIDE BEACH:     Mr. Clifton Lamar Muckenfuss Jr., affectionately known as “Muck” to his family and friends, husband of Eleanor Smoot Muckenfuss, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023 at the Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet after a courageous and hard-fought battle with brain cancer.  He was 71.   Muck was born in Walterboro October 21, 1951 a son of Juanita Saulisbury Muckenfuss and the late Clifton Lamar Muckenfuss Sr.  He graduated from John C. Calhoun Academy before attending The Baptist College in Charleston.  He began his professional career in automobile sales before transitioning over to finance.  He worked as an assistant manager, and through hard work and determination, advanced upward and served as manager, supervisor, and ultimately regional supervisor. Muck enjoyed spending time outdoors…especially on the waters of his beautiful state, fishing and boating.  He was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and SEC football, and loved yard sales, antiques and auctions.  He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will truly be missed. In addition to his wife Eleanor, and his mother Juanita Calvert, he is survived by his son Clifton Lamar Muckenfuss III (Mary Ann), by his brother Ronald Muckenfuss, and by his sister Mary Anne Asbelle.  There are three grandchildren, Chase, Cody and Cameron Muckenfuss, a step-son William Schroff, a nephew Trey Asbelle (Chessie) and a great-niece Kristen Asbelle.  Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, August 20, 2023 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the chapel, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Brain Tumor Association at https://www.abta.org.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
