Brice Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory

Mr. Mocha lived his dream, Family, Friends and the Great Outdoors. At an early age he was taught to enjoy and respect nature. This led him to pursue his love with a BS in Forestry and Wildlife from Virginia Tech and to follow up with a Masters in Wood Technology and a Minor in Mammalogy and Statistics from the University of Florida. In the middle of his education he was called up with The Virginia Air National Guard to serve in the Korean Conflict. He served as a MP and was later called in to be a Survival Instructor, to teach what he knew best, at Turner Air Force Base, Albany, Georgia.

In 1952 he married his sweetheart, Dolly Grey Agee, and they were married 66 years at her Death in 2018.

They moved to Round O, South Carolina in 1957, when Jack was hired by then West Virginia Pulp and Paper as a Forester. Moving to Walterboro in 1964. During his 37 years with what is now WestRock Mead Westvaco, he was a District Forester and later Nursery and Tree Improvement Supervisor.

After his retirement in 1993. He was able to follow more of his passions with travel, hitting all but 3 of the continental states. With his talent for photography he not only recorded his family’s life but showcased these beautiful United States with everything from local culture to the Majestic Nature he loved so much. Tennis found a competitive player during this time also, once being on 3 different teams at one time.

Hunting of all kinds and fishing of all kinds was by far his most precious pastimes. At times hauling his wife and three children into a small aluminum boat for a day of fishing or teaching his children and others the safe way to handle a firearm to hunt for food not just for sport.

In 2011 he and Dolly settled in Summerton, SC on Lake Marion where they had a small cabin and he could work to perfect his Bass fishing, as far as the fish would let him. His last fishing trip was March 31, 2023 where he had to be carried to and from his boat.

Surviving are his three children, Letty Beatty (Terrell), of Summerton, John V. Mocha, of Hampton and Mark Mocha

(Marti), of South Mills, NC. Three grandchildren, Clark Davis (Tracy), of James Island, Matthew Davis of Wilmington, NC and Jessica Mocha-Piel (Brandan), of Fredericksburg, VA, two great grandchildren, Sophie Grace Davis and Amelia Ivy Davis
