Richard Joseph Miles, also known as “Joey” and his self proclaimed nickname “Skeeter”, 25, of Early Branch, went to be with Jesus Sunday, August 10, 2023.

Joey was born June 23, 1998 in Walterboro, South Carolina to Derrick Miles and Crystal Milam. He was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church, and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson Academy; Class of 2016.

If Skeeter wasn’t in the river fishing or in the woods hunting, you could find him at his favorite place, Harold’s Country Club in Yemassee, SC.

Joey never met a stranger, and was always the center of attention making people laugh, and could blend with any age group. He was known for being extremely helpful and compassionate; he would stop what he was doing to help anyone if they needed it. He was the glue that held family and friends together and has always been supportive and protective of his Mama and “Sissy”. A running joke in Skeeter’s life was that he was a deer magnet; he killed more deer when he was behind the wheel than with his own shotgun. Also known as being extremely impatient, he would call multiple times in a row if he was excited to talk or had something completely irrelevant to tell you, if he left you a message and you didn’t call back immediately, you better believe another incoming call from him was coming through. His parents couldn’t have asked for a better son- less of a troublemaker, but more of a ball of sunshine. He loved antagonizing his father by picking him up off his feet when he hugged him, and was his Mama and Sissy’s bestfriend. Skeeter loved to cook, he loved his food spicy and always cooked steaks for Thanksgiving dinner.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Shirley “Ma”; and his paternal step-grandfather, Kermit Barnette, Sr. “Poppy”.

Surviving in addition to his parents are: his sisters, Saige “Sissy” (Tristan); and MacKenize; his brothers, Christopher and Dylan; grandparents, Jerry “Sug” and Freda “Gaga” Miles, Linda Barnette “Grandma Linda”, step-grandfather, James Spell “Pa”, a special uncle; Kevin; special cousins; Parker, Kylie (Adrian), Kacie (John), and their mother Monica. He leaves behind a nephew, Zayden; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends - too many to name. Last but not least, his loving companion Bo the dog.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family at, P.O. Drawer 50, Walterboro.

A memorial service was held 10 o’clock, Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. His very special and dear friend, Rev. Heyward Evans officiated.
