WALTERBORO – Mrs. Alice Charpia Padgett Maybin, 88, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, December 23, 2023, at her residence. She was twice married, first to the late Mr. Chris Padgett and secondly to the late Mr. Walter Maybin.
Born January 23, 1935, in Dorchester County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Victor Charpia and the late Thelma Augusta Knight Charpia. She worked for many years at Smoaks Manufacturing before eventually working and retiring from Dorchester County Disaster Preparedness. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Walterboro. She will be fondly remembered for the love she possessed in her heart, always being a dedicated caregiver to others, her family, siblings, and those she loved.
Surviving are: her children, Gwen Padgett Bunton and her husband Terry of Walterboro, Norma Padgett Hall of Greenwood, and Dell Padgett Murdaugh and her husband Michael of Smoaks; a daughter-in-law, Anne Padgett of Smoaks; and two brothers, Benjamin Charpia of Ohio and Eugene Charpia and his wife Angie of Texas. There are nine grandchildren, Russ Padgett (Stephanie), Jamie Bunton (Jenny), Ryan Bunton (Amy), Ian Padgett, Justin Patrick (Jenna), Kayla Murdaugh (Ian), Kristen Murdaugh (Camden), Caroline Patrick, and Keel Murdaugh (Alex); twelve great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher “Sonny” Padgett; a grandchild, Harley Hall; a brother, Harold Charpia; and a sister, Lynda Frasier.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, December 30, 2023, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Zion Baptist Churchyard, 152 Ruffin Road, Walterboro.
