Matthew Kendall Light, 21, of Early Branch, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, August 14, 2022, at his residence. 

Born April 18, 2001, in Colleton County, South Carolina he was a son of Michael Kendall Light and Stacey Mole Godley.  Matthew worked with the maintenance department for the Town of Hampton as well as the Town of Varnville.  A member of Sandy Run Baptist Church, he had played with the church’s softball league.  He dearly loved sports and excelled greatly at athletics.  Matthew played baseball and football at Andrew Jackson Academy, and was a part of the travel league, and enjoyed playing golf.  He was an avid fan of Clemson University sports and will forever be remembered for his love of family and sports. 

Surviving are: his mother, Stacey Mole Godley and her husband Jeff of Islandton; his father, Michael Kendall Light and his wife Nancy of Hampton; a half-brother, Kenneth Godley; a half-sister, Kennedy Godley, a step-brother, Dylan Foote; and a step-sister, Britney Foote.  He is survived by his grandparents, Faith “Faye” McMillan Mole, Sarah Ann Mixson and her husband Marlon, Gloria Gibson Godley, and Steve Bridges; as well as three uncles, Van Mixson, Russell Mixson, and Clary Mole, Jr.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clary Mole, Sr., Jay Kendall Light, Lamar Godley, and Teresa Annis. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, August 18, 2022, from Sandy Run Baptist Church, 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton.  Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, 15743 Pocotaligo Road, Varnville.
