Brice Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory

Mrs. Edith Ackerman Mason, 87, of Walterboro, entered into rest at her home in Forest Hills Thursday morning, August 14, 2023.  She was the loving wife of almost fifty years to the late Mr. Felix Lee Mason.

Born December 20, 1935, in Cottageville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late George Vincent Ackerman and the late Annie Lou Bazzle Ackerman.   She was a retired switch board operator from Colleton Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Edith left a loving and blessed heritage for a family that she dearly loved.  She took pride in being a Christian mother and always centered her life around her family.  She was a member of Double Portion Ministries.   She will always be remembered as an excellent cook.  She was especially known for her cakes, which were often showcased at her daughter’s iconic Glass House Restaurants in Walterboro.

Surviving are: three children, Lenora Norrell of Charleston, Bradford Craven (Nancy) of Walterboro, and Chuck Craven of Walterboro; a son-in-law, John Stevenson of Walterboro; and a brother, The Reverend Don Ackerman (Lynette) of Bonneau.  There are four grandchildren, Penny Sharp (Shannon), Constance Bonavota (Michael), Vern Stevenson (Marlena) and Courtney Stevenson (Tonya); and twelve great grandchildren that also survive.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon C. Stevenson; and a son-in-law, Bill Norrell. 

The family is forever grateful to her devoted caregivers, Tammy Fennell, Gail Murdaugh, Robin Polk, Diane O’Bryant, and Carol Craven. 

Funeral services were conducted at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, August 17, 2023, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The Reverend Don Ackerman officiating.   Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.
