MARTHA DAVIS Care of Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory  COTTAGEVILLE-Mrs. Martha Cone “Dit” Davis, 96, of Cottageville, entered into rest Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Colleton Medical Center. She was the widow of Norman Woodbury Davis, Sr., to whom she was married for 60 years. Funeral services were held at 3 pm, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Cottageville Baptist Church, 11643 Cottageville Highway, Cottageville.  Interment followed in Cottageville Cemetery, located on Cottageville Cemetery Road, off of Jacksonboro Road in Cottageville. Born March 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Hampton Cone and Martha Maude Reeves Cone.  She was a lifelong resident of Cottageville and graduated from Winthrop University with a double major in Biology and Chemistry.  She was a retired educator, having been a beloved teacher of home economics at Cottageville High School, and later taught 5th grade at Cottageville Elementary School.   Mrs. Davis was a member of Cottageville Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member of the Women’s Missionary Union and was the chairperson of Prayer Missions.  At her beloved church, she was also a former Sunday School Teacher of the preschool and nursery classes and taught a crocheting class crafting hats for the Seafarers Missions.  She was a prayer warrior whose number one goal in life was to share her love for the Lord.  She will also be remembered as a great cook who was famous for her pound cakes. Surviving are: her son, Norman W. Davis, Jr. and Tina Lee of Cottageville; daughter, Annie Rachel “Sissy” Viveiros and Louis of Cottageville; granddaughter, Abbie Leigh Davis of Cottageville; sisters-in-law, Lillian Cone of Charleston and Betty Cone Hamlet of Walterboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would especially thank her wonderful caregivers, Frances Wilson, Letha Pratt, Pearl Walker, and Mary Simmons.
