After living a joyous life, Jo Ann Rainey Liles, wife of Jon Patrick Liles, Sr., passed away peacefully at her home on Edisto Island on Tuesday evening, June 20, 2023.  She was 83. Jo Ann was born on September 14, 1939, in Walterboro, SC, the only daughter of Frankie H. and James H. Rainey.  In addition to her husband of 47 years,  Jo Ann is survived by her brother, James M. Rainey (Brenda), her stepsons Jack Liles (Natalie) and Dan Liles (Trudy) and several dear nieces and nephews.   Jo Ann grew up in Walterboro and attended Columbia College, graduating in 1961.  She then began the happy, circuitous route that brought her back to Walterboro and eventually to her beloved Edisto Island.  After settling in Walterboro, Jo Ann spent 25 years teaching and working in their family forestry business in partnership with her husband, Jon. After moving to Edisto Island, Jo Ann was very involved with the Methodist church, which she helped build.  Later, she became an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and then the Episcopal Church on Edisto. Jo Ann was well-known for her beautiful voice which she often shared with her community, performing at numerous weddings, funerals, and events. During her time in New York, she sang in several off-Broadway plays. A celebration of Jo Ann’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at 3 p.m. at her home on Edisto Island.   Memorials may be made in Jo Ann’s name to the charity of your choice.
