Light in the Darkness

Posted

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Most of us would agree that much of this world is in darkness. People are confused and disoriented to the point that right and wrong are not clear anymore. So many people are living in bondage and torment. The Apostle Paul described the condition of people living in darkness: “…but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…” (Romans 1:21-22). One of the symptoms of being in darkness is that you believe that you are so much smarter and wiser than those who don’t think like you.

So what’s so attractive about living in darkness? “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). People love darkness because we enjoy disobeying God and doing whatever we like. In God’s mercy, He sometimes let’s us experience the misery and torment of the darkness. God gives us moments of clarity that expose the deceptions of the darkness and helps us to see the truth. God allows us to experience the emptiness of the lies we have believed in the hope that we will turn from our selfishness and cry out to Jesus. If you are weary of living in the darkness, will you turn to the Light, Jesus Christ the Son of God and Savior of Man?

Heavenly Father, living out of relationship with You has left me empty and miserable. I’m tired of the darkness and I want to live in Your light. I need You to help me take steps toward You and follow You. I surrender my life to You. Lead me toward Your light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
