Jesus is the Son of Man

Posted

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Luke 19:10

Often during His lifetime, Jesus referred to Himself as the Son of Man. While any human can be called a son or daughter of man, there is only one Son of Man. Clearly this points to the humanity of Jesus. Jesus is the prophesied “Immanuel” or “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Jesus is unique in that while being fully God, He was also simultaneously fully human. Jesus became human to represent humanity. When Jesus carried our guilt, shame, sins, and condemnation to the cross, He died as a substitute for all of us. To pay our penalty, He had to become one of us. Jesus lived like one of us, enduring life’s hardships, resisting life’s temptations, sympathizing with our struggles, and suffering for our sins.

The prophet Daniel had a vision in which he saw “… before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed” (Daniel 7:13-14). Jesus is this Son of Man who has died for mankind in order to save mankind, and will one day return for His Church. Will you put your faith in Jesus Christ? Do you believe that Jesus is both God and human? Put your life in the hands of the Savior.
