WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Alice Virginia Fishburne Joye passed away peacefully at her family home on Hampton Street Sunday morning, June 16, 2024 under hospice care with her family by her side.  She was 81. Alice was born in Walterboro April 20, 1943 a daughter of the late L. Fripp Fishburne and Annie Ruth Cone Fishburne.  She graduated from Walterboro High School in 1961 and then attended Radiology School at Roper Hospital in Charleston.  Alice became employed at the hospital in 1965 as a technician, and over the years worked her way up to Chief X-Ray Technician, before retiring in 2003 as the department director.  She was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, and sang as an Alto in the church choir for many years.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her favorite pastime was horseback riding.  Alice is survived by her daughter Denise “Deni” Godley Grant (J.P.) of Hollywood, by three grandchildren, Shelby, Tyler (Carolina) and Jaymie Grant, and by four great-grandchildren, Austin, Toby, Kyla and Kendal.  She leaves behind three step-children, John Joye, Susan Muckenfuss (Rodney) and Tiffany Smith (Jerry).  Alice was preceded in death by her first husband Charles E. “Dickie” Godley Jr., by her second husband Leonard T. Joye, and by her sister Julie Fishburne Strickland.   Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, June 19, 2024 at 10:00 at Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
