Mr. Johnny Hudson Hoats, husband of Thelma Jeanette Bazzle Hoats, passed away at his home on Hendersonville Highway Wednesday, August 17, 2022.  He was 88.

Mr. Hoats was born in Ruffin July 21, 1934, a son of the late Bill and Ruby Hudson Hoats.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a retired employee of Asten-Hill in Walterboro.  Mr. Hoats was a faithful member of Peniel United Methodist Church, and also regularly attended the Walterboro Church of God of Prophecy.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and always made it a priority to attend his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  He was a fixture in the community, known for riding around with his wife Jeanette in their little red truck in search of a good cup of coffee.  He will truly be missed.

In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, he is survived by his daughters, Jody (Jerry) McAlhany, Janice (Jamie) Garvin, and Jon’Net (Keith) Rahn.  There are six grandchildren:  Nichole Stanfield, Devin McAlhany, Danielle Davis, Karl Davis Jr. “Bubba”, David Hiers Jr., and Jon William Hiers.  Mr. Hoats leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Tyler Carter, Cole Stanfield, and Morgan Stanfield, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Lane and Adalyn Carter. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Benton (I.M.), his sister-in-law Marie Carter Hoats, and many beloved nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Willie “Billy” Hoats Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday morning, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peniel United Methodist Church, 1397 Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro, SC  29488.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
