Holland R. Williams

Brice Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory

Mr. Holland R. Williams of Walterboro passed away on October 29, 2021, at the home of his loving daughter while under the care of Amedisys Hospice.

He was a son of the late Robert (Bob) Black Williams and the late Pearl Elliott Harrison Williams.  He was pre-deceased by his wife of almost 72 years, Mary Carter Williams and brothers Robert (Robbie) B. Williams, James E. Williams (Jim), and Charles E. Williams (Ed).  Holland was born in the Little Swamp Community on November 9, 1927 and graduated from Lodge High School in 1945 and entered the Navy soon after.  He got out of the Navy in 1948 and attended Clemson for a while before joining the Air Force and serving his country until he retired in September of 1967.  After retiring, he worked several jobs in Walterboro, including managing Western Auto.   He then went to work for the Defense Dept. and retired from that after working at both Parris Island and the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

He was very active in Bethel United Methodist Church until his health failed.  He was past President of Bethel United Methodist Men’s Club for several years, then he was the secretary for several years.  He had been an active member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 93 since 1973 until his health failed.

He is survived by son Dennis Williams of Walterboro and daughter Ginger Garner, of Beaufort.  There are three grandsons:  Scott Beasley; Stephen Jeffery; and a special grandson he helped raise, Matthew Garner, as well as great-grands Addison and Christian Beasley and Corbin and Olivia Jeffrey.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, November 3, 2021, at 11 o’clock in The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.   Burial with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.  Dad decided several years ago he would be buried in his Clemson National Championship shirt.  Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite collegiate attire in honor of Dad’s love of Clemson.   He would love to see which team was most represented.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and especially Mary, Matthew, and Jim, for the excellent care they gave Holland in his last months.

Pallbearers will be his church friends Tony Hamilton, Herman Hoffman, and Elton Culpepper, as well as grandsons Scott Beasley and Matthew Garner and great-grandsons Addison Beasley and Corban Jeffery.
