High speed wreck on I-95

Fire-Rescue responded to a single vehicle, high speed motor vehicle accident on Interstate 95 near the mile marker 55 northbound, Sunday afternoon June 11. The accident occurred during a severe thunderstorm and was one of a dozen motor vehicle that happened during a five-hour period Sunday afternoon. Three people were injured, one severely. Medic 1 and Medic 26 responded and treated all the patients at the scene. One rear seat passenger was sitting in the area which struck a large pine tree. He suffered a head injury. No medical helicopters could fly due to the poor weather conditions. Firefighter-Paramedics transported the man emergent in Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The other two patients were transported to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The other crashes and a car fire near the town of Smoaks kept Firefighters busy Sunday.
