Mrs. Dorothy Hyatt Hartley, 93, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023, at Pruitt Health Care in Walterboro. She was first married to Peter Lack and secondly to the late Robert “Bob” Frederick Hartley, Sr.

Born March 20, 1930, in Miami, Florida, she was the daughter of the late William J. Hyatt and Martha Lunsford Hyatt. She graduated with honors in 1959 from the MUSC School of Nursing. She was the Licensed Practical Nurse instructor from 1963-1964 at Colleton County Hospital. She then went to work as a Registered Nurse until her retirement for the Colleton County School District. She was Miss Walterboro in the 1940’s. She was a member of Northside Christian Church and a member of the Senior Friends group. Mrs. Dorothy loved reading and most of all, loved her family and spending time with them.

Surviving are: her children, Reverend Peter Michael Lack and his wife Georgia of Cleveland, South Carolina, Robert Frederick Hartley, Jr. and his wife Kristin of Charleston, Lucinda “Lindy” Lack Gentry of Walterboro, and Eugenia Anne “Jeannie” Hartley of Walterboro; grandchildren, Amy Gentry Campbell and her husband Dave, Lisa Gentry Cook and her husband Jason, Christopher Lack and his wife Amy, Timothy Lack and his wife Mary Beth, Aidan Hartley and Logan Hartley; and great grandchildren, Emma Campbell, Haley Campbell, Corban Lack, and Addison Lack. She was preceded in death by her brother, W.J. Hyatt, Jr.

Funeral services were held 3 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, May 7, 2023, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro.
