Gardner Hugh “Huey” Guess III passed away Wednesday evening, July 6, 2022 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  He was 61.

Huey was born in Walterboro July 19, 1960 a son of Mildred Richardson Guess and the late Gardner Hugh “Sonny” Guess Jr.  He was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, and loved his church family immensely.  He was always present helping in any way possible, serving as an usher and greeter as well as keeping the roles for Sunday School and church attendance. 

Huey possessed a keen memory, as well as a caring personality and genuine concern for others.  He was devoted to his family, and many of his favorite times were spent with them at family reunions and holidays.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer and coon hunting and spending time wandering the grounds of the family farm.  He will truly be missed.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister Allison Guess Still and her husband Mike, and their children Michael Hugh Still and Kori Annice Still.  There are a host of uncles, aunts and cousins he leaves behind to cherish his memory, as well as his devoted friend Travis Bell. 

Funeral services will be held Monday morning, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 in the Salem United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Stokes Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church sanctuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Old Oakland Cemetery, c/o James Kelley, 2076 Trailwood Drive, Decatur, GA 30032, or to the Stokes Cemetery, c/o Mildred Guess, 9902 Combahee Road, Yemassee, SC 29945.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements.
