Furman Russell Parnell, 79, of Lodge, entered into eternal rest Thursday morning, July 2, 2020, at the Roper Hospital in Charleston.

Born September 11, 1940, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Ewell Clinton Parnell, Sr. and the late Ottie Fralix Parnell.   Furman was no stranger to hard work and was well known for his work as the owner of Small Engine Repair.  He was a charter member of Community Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee for many years and served in many aspects of the church’s work. He will always be remembered for his love of gardening and the dedication he gave each year to his crops as well as his love for his boar goats and attending market sales.  

Surviving are: his wife whom he just celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage with on July 1, Mrs. Jeanette Bridge Parnell; three sons, Torrey Parnell and his wife Angel of Lodge, Russell Parnell of Lodge, and Lowell Parnell and his wife Jenny of Hampton; three daughters, Denna Parnell of Cottageville, Lynn Freeman of Hampton, and Amanda Bishop and her husband Scotty of Cottageville; a sister, Madge Shaffer of Orville, California and fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren with one on the way.   He was preceded in death by his brother, Ewell Parnell, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Tuesday afternoon, July 7, 2020, from Community Baptist Church, 15943 Bells Highway, Lodge. Interment will follow in Community Baptist Church Cemetery located on Lowcountry Highway in Ruffin. 

The family will receive friends Monday from 5 o’clock until 8 o’clock at Community Baptist Church.
