Mrs. Florence Kessler Modica, wife of the late Joseph Anthony Modica Sr., passed away at her home Friday morning, August 6, 2021 under hospice care with her loving daughter Florence and son-in-law Michael by her side.  She was 79.  

Florence was born in the neighborhood of Astoria in Queens, NY December 17, 1941 a daughter of the late Andrew Herbert Kessler and Florence Rooney Kessler.  For over thirty years she was a beloved employee of the Charleston County School District, working primarily at Ladson Elementary.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved to travel to Cherokee, where she would visit the casino and often try her luck at gambling.  She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children:  Florence Modica (Michael), Jenny Modica, Debbie Ferland (Steve), Joseph Modica Jr., and William Modica.  She has one sister, Patricia K. Lasante, and was the grandmother of eleven, the ninth being her namesake and sunshine.  She had four great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Kessler.  

A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, August 10.2021 at 11:00 at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Walterboro.  Final Commendation and Farewell will follow on the family property in Cottageville.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
