Mr. Wade “Pappy” Hampton Cox, III, 72, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, November 30, 2023, at his residence.
Born December 29, 1950, in Yonges Island, he was a son the of the late Wade Hampton Cox, II and Sarah Louise Stokes Cox. He was a long-distance truck driver for many years and then went to work with APC Gasoline Company and Kingsway Cement Company. He lived in the Weaverville, North Carolina and Hendersonville, North Carolina areas for over 30 years before moving back home in 2013. He attended Union Chapel Baptist Church while he lived in Weaverville and attended various churches locally. He was a member of the Apple County Tractor Club in Hendersonville. He loved his family, enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and having a good time with them, and also loved fishing.
Surviving are: his “wife”, Charlene Cox of Asheville, North Carolina; daughters, Heather Wolfe and her husband Thad of Walterboro and Christy Cox of Greenville, Tennessee; brother, Daniel “Dan” Cox and his wife Susan of Walterboro; sisters, Sarah Stanfield and her husband Wayne of Summerville, Hazel Risher of Walterboro, and Debbie Britt and her husband Greg of Walterboro; grandchildren, Sydney Wolfe, Gabe Wolfe, Lauren Wolfe, Mason Wolfe, Kelsey Pitts and her husband Bentley, Lacey Chandler, Cheyenne Cox, Brodie Osborne, and Wesley Osborne; and a great granddaughter, Frankie James Pitts. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Cox.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lindsay Road, Round O.
