WALTERBORO: Mrs. Nancy Walters Breland, wife of James H. Breland Jr., passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, December 22, 2023 at her home in Walterboro. She was 78.
Nancy was born in St. George October 1, 1945 a daughter of the late Sam and Pearl Walters. She was a graduate of the Baptist College in Charleston where she earned her BA degree in Elementary Education, and then for 28 years, taught generations of students at Forrest Hills Elementary School. Nancy was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, and loved spending time crafting and working with her beautiful plants and flowers.
In addition to her husband of 44 years, she is survived by her daughter Cheryl Ridgeway (Michael), and by her grandchildren Clifton, Zach, Ellie, Ryan and Breland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Brian Campbell, and by her brother Gene Walters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, December 28, 2023 at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, with burial following in the Breland Family Cemetery in Ruffin. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the church sanctuary. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
