Mr. James O’Neal Barrett, I, known by many as “Jim”, age 67, of Ruffin, entered into rest Sunday morning, February 25, 2024, at his residence. Born February 18, 1957, in Aiken, South Carolina, he was a son of Ms. Mae Mitchum Volk and the late J.O. Barrett.  Jim served our country faithfully in the United States Army and along with his wife operated Barrett Computers.  He was an iconic figure at Colleton Preparatory Academy.   At Colleton Prep, he served as the I.T. Director as well as the Maintenace Supervisor.   He dedicated his life to his family and work.  He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Walterboro Lodge No. 1988.  Surviving are: his wife of thirty years, Mrs. Janice Cummings Barrett; four children, Christina Leopard (Allen) of Warrenville, James “Jimbo” Barrett, II of Augusta, Georgia, Joseph Barrett (Victoria) of Pendelton, and Jacob Barrett of Pendelton; a brother, Michael Barrett (Mary Ann); and two sisters, Debbie Wallace (Bill) and Susan Shiver (Billy).  There are seven grandchildren, Destanie, Tanner, Xavier, Myles, Erica, Olivia, and Vivienne.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Colleton Preparatory Academy, P.O. Box 1426, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.    Funeral services were held at 5:30, Friday afternoon, March 1, 2024, from the Gymnasium of Colleton Preparatory Academy.
