A 74 year old Florida man was severely injured in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker. The accident occurred Sunday afternoon June 4, 2023. The Dodge Ram truck was traveling northbound and left the roadway at highway speed and entered the wooden median. The pickup truck then struck two large trees causing extensive damage to the vehicle. The driver was wearing a seatbelt but suffered multiple traumatic injuries including a head injury. Other motorists stopped to render aid and found the man unconscious in the truck. Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find the truck facing south and removed the man from the vehicle with full spinal precautions. He was treated at the scene, and was then transported emergent by Fire-Rescue to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
