In celebration of their final novel study of the year, the fourth grade students at Bells Elementary School hosted their second annual lemonade war fundraiser during the final week of the school year. Just as a brother and sister competed to see who could raise the most money selling lemonade in Jaqcueline Davies novel The Lemonade War, Bells Elementary School’s fourth grade boys and girls competed to see who could sell the most lemonade. The students had the opportunity to sell lemonade to the staff and students at the school, as well as members of the community such as the Colleton County Fire Department, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Department, and members of the Colleton County School District Office. The fundraiser was a great success! Due to the collaborative efforts of the fourth grade students and the support of the local community, they were able to raise a total of $455.20 and the girls were the winners of the competition. All proceeds are being donated to the Keeper of the Wild Foundation in Walterboro, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing orphaned, abandoned, and injured animals.
