Spotlight-Travel Teacher Laura Robinson

Posted

Travel nursing is an occupation most of us are familiar with. Now there is travel teaching which is newer on the scene of education.

The concept is essentially the same except with education instead of healthcare where the individual will be going to schools rather than an individual person. Robinson, who is from San Antonio, Texas retired after teaching in the public school system for 28 years in 2023. She was working at the local YMCA which she enjoyed, but she felt something was missing, like it just was not enough. She put her resume and credentials on Indeed and traveling teacher jobs kept popping up in her inbox. After ignoring the notifications at first, Robinson applied, spoke to a recruiter, and got the ball rolling.

What appealed to Robinson besides being able to teach again, was the opportunity to travel. Robinson reflects that she was not one that would have been able to do a lot of traveling, before and this opportunity allowed her to have the best of both worlds. Personally, she was at a point in her life where her children were adults and self-sufficient which allowed getting into this line of work easier and to do something exclusively for herself.

This current school year is Robinson’s first year travel teaching and she has enjoyed the work and seeing a lot of South Carolina. She is a certified teacher with a special education certificate, and Laura is currently working at Black Street Early Childhood Center.
