WALTERBORO: Mrs. Shirley Walker Satterfield, wife of Doyle Satterfield, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday morning, April 16, 2024 under hospice care. She was 85. Shirley was born in Gaffney, SC May 9, 1938 a daughter of the late George Walker and Hettie Walker Duncan. For many years she was a department manager for Sky City in Walterboro, before working for…and retiring from…New York Wire. She was a founding member of Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville, where always volunteered to welcome visitors and new members to the church. Shirley loved to shop, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her son Jimmy Satterfield (Stacy), and by her grandchildren Peyton, Trenton, Houston and Isabella Satterfield. She leaves behind her sister, Wilma Jean Duncan, of Gaffney, and her brother, George Walker, of Rock Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Dwayne Satterfield, and by her siblings David Walker, Maynard Duncan, and Brenda Duncan Matson. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, April 18, 2024 at 2:00 at Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the church sanctuary, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
