Robert "Micky" Strickland, husband of Linda Tucker Strickland, passed away Monday morning, July 27, 2020 at his home in Walterboro under the care of Amedisys Hospice after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 72.

Micky was born in Colleton County September 9, 1947 a son of the late Carlisle and Mary Jo Reeves Strickland. He was a 1965 graduate of Walterboro High School, and a 1969 graduate of the Baptist College in Charleston.  He became employed with the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation on April 7, 1971 as a counselor.  Over the next thirty years Micky enabled countless disabled citizens of Colleton and Dorchester Counties to find gainful employment.  In 1999 he received the "Counselor of the Year" award.

Micky and his wife owned and operated Strickland's Dry Cleaners for many years before selling the business to his brother Charles.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, where he served on various committees and was active in the Ron Sammons Sunday School Class.  His outgoing personality and infectious smile were known throughout the community, and he will truly be missed.

In addition to his wife of fifty years, Micky is survived by his children Kim Miller (Byron) of James Island, and Jason Strickland (Regi) of Lexington.  He has four grandchildren:  Mary Brannon Strickland, Katie Strickland, Reagan Miller, and Carlisle Miller.  He has a brother Charles Strickland (Martha) of Walterboro, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by a brother Carlisle.

A Memorial service will be held Thursday morning, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church sanctuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Staff Ministry Account at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements
