On Thursday, February 12th, 2026, Queen Quet returned to the Colleton County Memorial Library to celebrate Black History Month and Gullah/Geechee culture. Along with being an author, historian, mathematician, preservationist, and environmental justice advocate, to list just a few of her titles, Queen Quet is also the Chieftess and Head-of-State for the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Colleton County residents of all ages joined her in the circle this month to learn about the origins of Black History Month, Gullah/Geechee tradition, and the vital importance of coming together to learn from one another. With characteristic wit and warmth, Queen Quet shared stories, ideas, and history with a rapt audience. It was a night full of laughter and learning for all who attended.
