Paul Elliott Walker Sr. passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022 in his home from an extended illness, surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Walker was born in Colleton County on January 23, 1938, a son of the late Clifford and Martha Walker. He graduated from Walterboro High School, and married the love of his life, Annie Dean Benton Walker. He served in the Army National Guard from 1955-1961, and the Army Ready Reserves from 1962-1964.  Mr. Walker worked in the timber industry for 45 years, starting out his career with Lightsey Brothers and then on to Westvaco Mead, from which he retired. He and Dean had three children, Paul, Randy, and Sandy.

“Papa”, as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, was a force of nature, determined to provide well for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world.

When Elliott wasn’t cruising timber, you could often find him working on the family farm, helping a neighbor, checking the local clearance sections for bargains, or leading the projects of his children and grandchildren.

Anyone that knew Elliott knew how he loved to laugh and joke. His determination and work ethic were second to none, and his legacy of laughter and generosity will live on through his beloved family.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 65 years, Annie Dean Walker, his children Paul E. Walker Jr. (Laura), Randy Walker, and Sandy Thomas, all of Walterboro. He has one grandson, his “Main Man” Lonnie Nettles (Mandi) and two great grandchildren Walker and Connor Nettles. Mr. Walker leaves behind one brother, Roy Walker of Walterboro, and a sister Catherine Brooks of Columbia.  There are a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.  Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his siblings Helen Infinger Bowers, W.C. Walker, Jane Ballagh, Randolph Walker, and Kenneth Walker.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his memory to either Grace Advent Christian Church, 436 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro, SC  29488, or to Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS), 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC  29488.
