WALTERBORO:     Mr. G.E. Haskell Moore Jr., husband of Jane Cone Moore, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, April 16, 2024 at his home in Walterboro.  He was 73. Haskell…as he was affectionately known to his family and friends…was born October 1, 1950 a son of the late Dr. George Moore and the late Nell Dunford Moore.  Out of five children he was the only boy, and although he loved his sisters dearly, he often joked that their “hand-me-downs” just didn’t fit him “quite right” (He did love the poodle skirts however!)  Haskell enjoyed working with his father in his veterinarian practice and developed a love for animals and their care at an early age.  He would assist his father at the office, and would accompany him to farms throughout the county helping deliver and nurse back to health every sort of farm animal imaginable. After graduating high school, Haskell attended Clemson University, and he remained a loyal fan throughout his entire life.  He was employed with Clemson in the Livestock and Poultry Division, and eventually went to work for the State of South Carolina as a Livestock Law Enforcement Officer and Animal Health Technician.  He was a volunteer firefighter for both the City of Walterboro and Colleton County for many years, and actually served as chief of the Walterboro Fire Department for nine months.  Haskell was a well-known and beloved member of the Walterboro community, and his caring personality and infectious laugh were his trademarks.  He loved to play golf, travel, and he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to the “love of his life” Jane, whom he was married to for 52 years, Haskell is survived by his daughters Nikki Beasley (Scott), Lynn Hiott (Roger) and Janna Davis (Brannon).  There are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren he adored.  He leaves behind his sisters Joyce M. Bledsoe, Lynn M. Crouch (Tom) Sally Moore, and Pam Moore.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Jan Pye and Paula Cone, and by his brother-in-law Pete Pye.  In addition to his parents, Haskell was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Betty Hamlett, and by his brothers-in-law Joseph and Bob Cone.   Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2024 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Live Oak Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 at the funeral home, located at 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
