Dear The Press and Standard Editor,

It is baseball season and the Colleton County Parks and Recreation Center is the busiest place in town. On any given weekday evening, tee ball, softball and baseball parents squeeze into any Rec Center parking place still available to watch their children play with friends and learn a little sportsmanship. Baseball fields are also used by area schools and there is often middle school play and visiting teams in the complex.

If you are in town on the weekend and you pass by wondering what is going on, a baseball tournament is likely in town. This, too, brings crowds of players and fans – numbers comparable to Friday night football - into the park.

My family participates in tournaments, Rec league and school play. We spend almost every weekday night and often weekends at the fields. There is so much activity going on at our facilities and CCPRC, we want you to know how grateful we are for all the work you do. From the maintenance and exchange of fields for multi-levels of baseball and softball play to the coordination of the volunteers and players, there are a few who do a lot to make it all happen. We see you and appreciate you.

And in case you did not know, CCPRC has the best concessions around. Ask other area baseball families and they are sure to compliment the fried pickles!!

As I picked up my child from practice the other day, he said, “Mom, I love the Rec Center.”

I agree, son!! And I want him to know how important it is to let others know of our appreciation.

Play Ball!
