This week’s Spotlight is on Lance Calcutt, son of Doctors Drew and Vonda Calcutt. Born and raised in Walterboro along with his sister Samantha, Calcutt attended Colleton County High School and played many sports under Coach Coby Peeler and Coach Chris Collins. His sophomore year, he was named Region 8 4-A All-Region and in his senior year was named HSSR All-State and was on the All-Lowcountry 1st Team. Also, during his senior year, Lance was listed in the Top 100 Athletic Prospects in South Carolina, ABC News 4 Scholar-Athlete of the Week, and played in the Border Blitz Bowl. In addition to his athletic ability Lance is an accomplished musician, playing multiple instruments and has participated in chorus, which included being inducted into the All-State Chorus. He also performed with lead roles in two musicals during his high school career.
Calcutt graduated valedictorian of his class while holding the position of Student Body President and is now majoring in Biology with a focus in Pre-Med at North Greenville University.
While the 2023 season ended in November a handful of North Greenville Football players played in one last game as college athletes by participating in several All-Star Events across the country.
Calcutt who is a punter for North Greenville, was one of six players representing the university in one of three different all-star events with the hope of playing football at the next level.
Calcutt participated in The Dream Bowl, a College Football All-Star Showcase of the best players from across the country. The game and the series of events are a celebration of the excellence, commitment, and sacrifice made by the players and their families. The Dream Bowl provided first-class accommodations, meals, and facilities for the players, along with a full weekend of football and social related activities for their friends and families, which will create a lifetime of memories for their collegiate send-off game.
A statement from the University read, “We are ecstatic that these young men had the opportunity to represent themselves and North Greenville at these All-Star games. We are very proud of each one of these young men and will miss their passion and work ethic for their team and university.”
