Mary Jeanette Messex Blackburn Goodale, 93, of Ruffin, died Monday, September 9, 2024. Born May 3, 1931, in Millen, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie H. Messex and Ruby Hargrove Messex. Mary was a member of Evergreen Christan Church, where she was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, would help with Bible School and was part of the outreach committee. She worked for Coastal Food Supply for over twenty years, but in her downtime, she enjoyed puzzles, coloring, listening to music, doing word searches, and enjoyed gardening- she loved flowers but most of all, her family. Surviving are: children, Hubert Blackburn (Becky Linder) of Ruffin, Phillip B. Blackburn (Kim) of Walterboro, Jeannette Newman (Donnie) of Pooler, Georgia, Jerri McGraw (Les) of Bennetts Point, and Kay Catterton of Mashawville; sisters, Julia Ferguson (Wade) of Hampton, Grace Mosley Bedgood of Lyons, Georgia; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She is preceded in death by her first husband of forty-five years, Buford V. Blackburn; her second husband, Robert T. Goodale; sister, Mamie Lou Godbee; brothers, Marvin Messex and Buck Messex. Funeral services were held 3 pm, Sunday, September 15, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment followed in Evergreen Christian Church Cemetery. Arrangements By: The Brice W.
