COTTAGEVILLE – The Honorable George Randolph Addison, Sr., age 84, of Peirce Road in the heart of his beloved town, Cottageville, South Carolina, entered into rest peacefully Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2024, at his residence. Born February 12, 1941, at the old homeplace in Cottageville, he was a son of the late Robert Lawrence Addison and the late Vivian Gruber Addison. George possessed a strong and devoted work ethic as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked for thirty-one years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he retired as a Nuclear Submarine Inspector. He served his community on the Town Council for countless years and was the Mayor of Cottageville for nearly two decades. The devotion to his people and community was with unwavering dedication and loyalty and he was ever so proud of his time in office. Along with his wife, they established the iconic Grand Central Stop (BP) which was a beloved staple for its service, prices, and delicious hot bar. He was a licensed real estate agent and through that passion the last, and probably one of Geroge’s greatest accomplishments, was Harmony Hall, a subdivision he created and oversaw the development of. He was a member of Rehoboth Methodist Church in Cottageville. George was a man of many talents and abilities. He possessed the uncanny ability of wood crafting with the most intricate of details. Surviving are: his wife of sixty-two years, Mrs. Lorine Headden Addison; two sons, Randy Addison of Atlanta and Matthew Addison (Martin Gatewood) of Blackville; a brother, Robert “Bob” Addison (Lee) of Saint George; and a sister, Jackie Addison Hayne (Bill) of Anderson; as well as a large host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Addison Hamlet. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to: Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17 Chicago, Illinois 60601. The Relatives and Friends of The Honorable George Randolph Addison, Sr. are invited to attend his funeral services which will be conducted at 1:30pm Saturday afternoon, September 14, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Jordan Cemetery, 234 Addison Road, Cottageville.
