WALTERBORO:     Thomas Ackerman, husband of Lorna Sirna Ackerman, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, September 13, 2024 at the Summerville Community Hospice House after a courageous, two-year battle with cancer.  He was 59.   Thomas was born in Walterboro August 22, 1965 a son of Tommy J. Ackerman and the late Priscilla Wydette Martin Ackerman.  He played football in high school for Andrew Jackson Academy before playing for…and graduating from…Ruffin High School.  He proudly served his country in the United states Navy, and after being honorably discharged, worked as a carpenter before earning a degree in electronics.  Thomas was a dedicated employee of Patterson Dental for over fifteen years, and was working full days as their service and electronics technician within weeks of his passing.  Thomas loved his family and focused all his time and energies on them.  He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed nothing more than caring for his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren.  He was a gifted woodworker…and his favorite pastimes included watching football and cheering for the Atlanta Braves.   In addition to his father, and his beloved wife of 37 years, Thomas is survived by his son, Antonio James “Tony” Ackerman (Azha) of Islandton, and by his daughter, Katelynn “Katie” Gee (Caleb) of Summerville.  There are five grandchildren that he loved with all his heart:  Brailynn, Tommy, Nolan, Ashlin and Kaden.  He leaves behind his siblings Angela Baker of Walterboro, Harvey Lucas “Luke” Ackerman of Round O, and Nicholas L. Ackerman (Crystal) of Ehrhardt.  In addition to his mother, Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ackerman, and by a sister, Stephanie Lynn Ackerman.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024 at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak.  The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
