Frances Marion Waltz Baggett, daughter of Mary Elizabeth Smith Waltz and Willie Clinton Waltz, was born on January 31, 1945 in Ruffin, South Carolina. A long time resident of Walterboro, she was a woman who loved her family and friends dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her older sister Mildred “Billie” Waltz Ulmer, and by her brother Freddie “Pete” Waltz. Frances is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Howell Baggett, Sr., and her children, Robert “Rob” Howell Baggett, Jr., and William Jonathan “Jon” Baggett (Ann); grandchildren Robert “Tyler” Baggett, Ashley Elizabeth Baggett, and Trenton Yates Baggett; her siblings Roger Dale Waltz (Sonya) and Margaret Waltz Harrison; as well as nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Frances had a cheerful and hardworking personality that she shared with anyone she encountered. She was a graduate of Bells High School and proudly attended Columbia College. Always devoted to her local Baptist church, Frances grew up attending Smoaks Baptist Church, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro for many years. In the 1990s, Frances and her husband Robert owned and ran Lowcountry Auto Parts. She also worked for many years at Enterprise Bank of Walterboro.
With a heart for hospitality, Frances let her light shine throughout the years as she made people feel welcome, but perhaps her greatest impact was as a wife, mother, and grandmother, instilling faith and family values in her children and grandchildren. Always close with her siblings, Frances loved serving Low Country Boil when it was her turn to host the annual Waltz Christmas Dinner. Frances had many hobbies, notably cooking (her Sunday roast was legendary!), gardening, and reading her Kindle. She always had a twinkle in her eyes when she talked to you. With a spiritual gift of helping others, no matter how big or small the task, her love of Christ was evident in the way she treated everyone she encountered. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 in the morning on Wednesday, September 11th at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Hendersonville Highway in Walterboro, South Carolina. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.
