George Malone, former Colleton County Sheriff, passed away on Tuesday, February 17.
Sheriff from 2004 until 2012, Malone was a well-respected law enforcement officer in Colleton County and began his law enforcement career in 1968 has the first African American Deputy Sheriff in Colleton County.
The Sheriff’s Department led a procession of law enforcement vehicles to escort Sheriff Malone through Walterboro to Koger Mortuary.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Department said, “Sheriff Malone dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Colleton County with integrity, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to public safety. His leadership and service left a lasting impact on this agency and the community he faithfully protected. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Malone family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
