Colleton County Fire Rescue remembered the fallen firefighters of the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center by joining fire departments across the country in conducting a remembrance ceremony on September 11, 2026.
Firefighters, County Officials, County Council Member and Officers from the City Police Department, and members of the general public gathered at the Colleton Civic Center to take part in the coordinated nationwide salute to fallen firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel, and civilians alike, and to the extraordinary response of the entire American fire service to the tragic events that have changed all of our lives.
The remembrance took place at the exact moment the World Trade Center events occurred and will be marked by two series of bell chimes, one for each of the towers whose collapse took so many lives at 9:59 a.m. EDT and 10:28 a.m. EDT, respectively.
“We all recognize the great losses suffered on September 11, 2001, and we wanted to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that terrible day in September twenty-five years ago,” said Dr. David A. Greene, Colleton CountyFire-Rescue Chief. “We owe all of them a debt of gratitude.”
The Ceremony began with the initial tolling of the bell at 9:59 am and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The reading of the names of each of the 343firefighters from FDNY who died in the tower collapse on September 11th, 2001. The 35-minute ceremony concluded with the tolling of the bell at 10:28 am.
