The 49th annual Pow Wow for the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe was held Friday and Saturday, April 24th and 25th, at the Dorchester Heritage Center. Chief John Glenn Creel, carrying a picture of his late wife, First Lady Charlene Hale Creel followed the flag colors into the Grand Entry Parade. An empty chair honoring Mrs. Creel who died earlier this year from a long battle with cancer was placed next to the grand entrance .

Visiting chiefs from other South Carolina tribes, veterans, and local officials joined the large parade of regalia clad dancers and visitors. State Representative, Mark Smith, District 99, Berkeley County, and Dorchester County council member, Rita Mae Ranck were among dignitaries in the parade.

During opening remarks, Chief Creel recognized all veterans and first responders present and thanked sponsors for assisting with the Pow Wow. “Remember to come again next year for our fifty annual event,” he reminded.

Visiting drummers and dancers participated in drum and dance in several age brackets and competed for cash prizes.
